Narcissistic Family System
Survival in your family is like playing a game of chess. You need to be steps ahead of everyone else, otherwise drama, social exclusion, and conflict ensue.
A narcissistic family system occurs when at least one person in the family demonstrates narcissistic personality disorder or narcissistic traits, and the remaining family members behave in a way that enables and sustains the narcissist's poor behavior.
Traits of a Narcissistic Family System:
- Competition among siblings
- Limited love to go around
- Normalized rage and explosive emotions
- People forming groups to gang up on another
- Preoccupation with family image
- Secrecy among family members
- Mis-trust of outsiders
- Lack of boundaries
If any of the above sounds familiar, you may be experiencing narcissistic abuse by a family member.
