What is Narcissistic Abuse?
Narcissistic abuse is a pattern of emotional and psychological manipulation carried out by someone with strong narcissistic traits or Narcissistic Personality Disorder. People who experience narcissistic abuse often report feeling confused, not good enough, shame, or fear.
Some examples of narcissistic abuse:
- Constant criticism.
- Negative comparison to others.
- Telling you "you're too sensitive" or "it's just a joke."
- Explosive outbursts followed by periods of kindness and promising to "change."
- Lack of consideration for your feelings.
- Doesn't want you to spend time with family and friends.
- Tells you your memory is incorrect.
- Blames you for EVERYTHING.
- Threatens retaliation to get their way.
- Has hypocritical expectations for how they should be treated vs. how they treat you.
- Gives you the silent treatment.
